No one at Netflix was truly prepared for the success of Stranger Things. With little to no advertising behind the show, Netflix had to suddenly promote the runaway summer hit in a big way for Halloween. Using Netflix's social listening, we found super fans from Atlanta, Georgia who noticed that the show was shot outside of their hometown and featured Brenda Woods, a local news anchor in a cameo.
Seizing the opportunity, we extended Brenda Woods’ cameo and fans they went absolutely insane - transforming a small hyper-localized asset into a brief cultural moment around the world.
